Griffith's at Cadwell

Andy reports on the Griffiths at Cadwell

The first race of the season is always a worry. Is the car OK? Am I prepared? What have the other guys done over the winter? There’s lots to think about in any case, but when the first rounds are at Cadwell Park…the anxiety is huge.

Cadwell, as some of you maybe aware, is a motorcycle track just north of Lincoln, which spreads over a valley and the surrounding hills. Very narrow, it’s not the best place for TVRs to be racing, but those factors generate some interesting tussles amongst the wide spread of TVR’s taking part.

TVRMonster Sagariff. 2008 Season begins
Hopefully, a few of you will be aware of the car as it campaigned in last years TVR Tuscan Challenge ending up 2nd in the Group B (sub 350bhp class) to Tony Abrams’ RV8 Tuscan. Though runner up is never a desirable position, I was still very pleased as the car is heavy (being still road legal) giving away 250kg to a Tuscan Challenger and we missed three rounds at the start of the season due to Track day commitments. We were running dates at the Nurburgring and Spa over those weekends and they took preference.

Our intensions when racing were purely to have a go. Missing three races and having a heavy car, we only hoped to finish the season around 7th in “B” but technical failures and accidents put a couple of front runners cars out and the car was much stronger than we’d hoped. We were 2nd in our first race and 1st in our second in appalling conditions at Pembrey. Torrential rain means that my heavy, high torque car was in the overall lead at one point…I nearly retired after that weekend. Surely it couldn’t get better than that! It did fortunately. Three Class wins including a Double Win at Brands Hatch at the last meeting of the year over Jonnny Wilson’s +400bhp Cerbera secured the runner up position. Superb! Videos of all the races can be seen in our Galleries at tvrmonster.com
