HID Light Upgrade |
|
| Ian Barrett has Kindly submitted this info on his HID upgrade. There are a couple of options out there to make the tea lights that the Griffith has for lights. One is running seperate feeds to each light which does help( you wont have the one even dimmer tea light then. Another is the light upgrade Sportmotive uses as the same as the last 100 Griffiths. And Ian is doing what the HID upgrade. | |
The kit I have is for 2 H1 bulbs, which I’m putting in the dipped lights only. They couldn’t run the high beam as well although I’m not sure if they could have run the high beam instead of the dipped because I don’t know what bulb type the high beam driving lamps have. At the minute I have just plugged them straight into the existing wiring, nothing extra added. The install is surprisingly easy and if I’d known just how easy I wouldn’t have wasted my money on fancy ‘brighter’ bulbs. | | | Here is the wiring before I started. Notice its all colour coded. | | | Thei new bulb in place. With the new grommet attached. But the two spades you can see are the unit power which plug into the dipped beam bulb circuit (red and yellow coded) – so they are on the wrong side of the grommet. I cut the spades off and pulled the wires out of the grommet. Also, there is no sidelight bulb or wiring in this picture. I also cut the spade connectors off the end of the sidelight so I could feed them through the grommet where I’d just pulled the main power wires out of. | | To the Right shows Red and yellow colour coded wires coming out of the access hole are the car loom dipped beam circuit. Connected to these are the two spades from the HID box – the only two wires which need connecting to the car. The HID unit is dangling out of sight, lower left. Black and Blue colour coded wires are the sidelight wires I cut the spades off, threaded through and re-attached new spades.. Black grommet in the back of the headlight was supplied with the kit and was a perfect fit.
| | The complete kit. You can trace the wiring all the way through in this shot and it shows more than any other picture just how simple it all plugs together.
| | The finished article. It looks more like it was made for the car than some of the things I’ve seen which were made for the car.
| | Here is one showing the HID installed in one pod. Offside is HID, Nearside is Phillips Vision Plus '+50% Brighter' 55w bulbs. | | |
