Del's Light Upgrade Print
Derek ( also known as Seasider ) with his fading eyesight decided enough was enough and he needed more/better light for his covert missions terrorising quiet sleepy villages during the night. Griffith  LE 7" Headlights where needed.

Well here they are. I must say i'm very impressed with the Dip beam output and beam pattern from the 7" lenses.
Main beam is even better with the 60w H4 Bulb and the original spots.
Offside still independent power supply as Mod-wise kit, All 50%+ Philips Vision Plus bulbs.

The conversion was done using LE pod's that were was acquired from TVR through a dealer. I believe TVR normally require a LE chassis No.
TVR Part No. for the 7inch light is M1638 which is listed as Chimpera, Tamora and Late Griffith.
I believe the Hella Part No. is 1L8003060/691 if you get them from Hella supplier ( although I am not 100% sure this is correct as they make two 7" lights ).

From the rear 5 and 7

Front 5 and 7 inches

I believe that the original pod could also be modified to make the 7" lense fit, it looks like the rear would have to have 2-3 inches cut off and replaced with a cylindrical section that accepts the 7 inchers.

I had them sprayed and fitted when I was having some more paintwork done. David Beer kindly made up a wiring loom that connected straight to his very good original independent power supply upgrade. He also linked the the dip and main beam relays so the dip cuts out when the main is activated, saving blown bulbs or melted pod's/perspex covers due to excess heat.

As for cost:
(all approx)

  • Lens's £65 pair (lenses are cheaper than the original Cibie's)
  • Pod's £100 pair
  • Perspex covers £130 pair (probably could re-use old ones)
  • Bulbs £18

Cheers Derek for sharing that info with us and hopefully someone will try it with the original pod and let us know how they get on. Some more on the forum here.

Thanks from Del

A small mention for TeGriffic (Shawn) who came up with an idea for
covering the rear of the assembly in the inner wing. Now only a Chimeara
owner should have thought or known of Such an item. Wink

Reeso "Rat boy" (Peter) Was the only LE owner that replied/helped with
any info I asked for, perhaps the others want to keep the secret of
"seeing the light" to themselves. ( A poor show from Owners here...ed)

The diamond merchant was as useful as he always is. Taking phone calls
on a Sunday from an electrical numpty. He's an absolute star....
The bodyshop and my Secret "special ordering" guy Sealed

Cheers
