After doing the dash it was only right to do the switch panel too. This is a bit more fiddly due to the small triangular LED's.

The two electric window buttons can be prised out using a small screwdriver being careful not to damage the switch. Now there are two nuts holding the switch panel to the leather console. Some people have been able to undo them through the electric window Switch hole. I couldn't so had to undo the Center Console. To undo the Center Console you have to undo two nuts behind each seat. Then on mine, with the handbrake full up you can lift the console from behind the seats up about a 30 cms and support using a a couple of pieces of wood. You should have enough room now to get a socket and wrench through to the holding nuts of the switch panel from below. If you need to lift the console more then you will need to slacken the handbrake completely off . Once these nuts are undo the switch panel comes out easily and the one connector is unplugged. before removing the electric panel the turn switches have to be undone using a small Allen key. Before pulling the Electric panel from the Panel you will have to try and loosen the LED's. These are very delicate and can be broken easily, but also easily and cheaply replaced. I used some very sharp small knives and screwdrivers just gently rubbing away at the glue around the edges until the become loose. They can then be parted. The veneer is taken off as with the dash and cut out using the same methods. For the triangular holes I drilled a small hole and filed out using miniature files. I roughened up both steel backing and CF again remembering to degrease aswell and then glued together again clamping together. Of course, installation is the reverse of the removal. Window switches by Leven Technology, Handbrake by Zertec L.e.d's if broken can be replaced from Maplins or RS components. (thankyou Karl Stringer for this info) The small round (3mm) Cylindrical ones with a flat top are made by Kingbright, stock nos; L424HDT Red, L424GDT Green. Maplin order codes; YH72 red, YH73 green. RS stock numbers; 247-1139 red,229-2497 Green. Triangular ones are also made by Kingbright, stock number L-323GD (Green) and L-323YD (Yellow). Maplin supposedly stock the green ones as YY55k, but not the yellow ones. I hope this is of interest and shows how easy it really can be to change your Dash, at least to Carbon Fibre. top |
