Heater control unit for Fan Overide Print

A great little mod here by Anthony that uses one of the dial on off switches and the led on the heater control panel for what is normally for heated seats which many dont have.

In summer one of my two cooling fans died. While I waited for the new fan to arrive I decided to fit a fan override switch to give the one remaining fan a head start cooling me down in traffic.

I didn't like the idea of using the dash light switch by the left knee as I still use this for the dash lights. On a previous occasion I've had the centre console out and noticed all four rotary dials in the heater unit come with on / off switches built in. I thought I'd be clever and try use on of these for my fan override switch.

Dash Light Dimmer Mod Print
The standard driving lights on the Griff a little on the dull side, and it’s not helped by the dash lights being super bright, well at least my yellow ones are. I thought I'd try make the night driving more comfortable but building a dash light dimmer.

My idea was to simple use a variable resistor (potentiometer/pot) to attenuate the power getting to the dash lights. I started by removing the on/off switch by the left knee and measuring the current draw of the lights. It was 1.1A, so I made the assumption the resistance of all the dash lights 12.5 Ohm.

Griffith 500 Carpet Replacement Print

David Roake was asking on the PH forum for any info on carpet replacement and any tips on what needs to come out and how. Unfortunately not to many people came forward and the few that did could either only make suggestions on what may need to come out and how to do it, or they recommended a trimmer/fitter.

David after a few quotes decided to do it himself and  ordered a ready made carpet set from Coverdales ( in our links page ). As there is very little information on this I asked if David would be so kind to Document his experiences, of which he has kindly done for us.

Antony Pattison's Body Off Restoration Print

Antony Pattison has very kindly sent us this article of his recent pre-cat restoration. Its a great article as I am sure you will agree and its great to see an owner taking this on and Documenting it to share with us. Thanks Ant.

1. Chassis Assessment.

Back in June 07 I started to take more interest in the condition of the outriggers on my ’92 precat Griffith.
Having done remedial work on both the front end and rear end of the chassis including the suspension a couple of winters earlier my attention turned to making sure the outriggers weren’t about to crumble away!

WARNING Owners in West Sussex Print

If you have a Griffith then you maybe interested in whats happening in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex. In January they are planning to run a pilot scheme to fine Motorists £20 spot fines if you leave your engine running while stuck in traffic. Traffic wardens will be given the power to slap this spot fine on you in this bizarre Scheme which if successful will be expanded.

This could prove to be a right pain in the arse for any TVR owner with the horrible hot start gremlin and the huge starting currents needed to start and is yet another round in the war on motorists.

The plan is to cut emissions which has already been ridiculed by the AA saying that turning a car off for less than a minute is not fuel efficient as the fuel you would use starting up would be more a than you would use idling for that short time....probably more like 2 minutes in our case.
