Keith Finnet Dedicates his very informative website 4.3bv.com to the very Rare 4.3 BV. The TVR Griffith was revealed in prototype form at the 1990 Motor Show. When the car was eventually released for sale to the public in 1991, two engine sizes were available - the 4.0 litre and 4.3 litre . Both cars were based on the Rover V8 unit used by TVR in the Griffith (and Chimaera) until production ended in 2001.

When the car was eventually released for sale to the public in 1991, two engine sizes were available - the 4.0 litre (240 BHP) and 4.3 litre (280 BHP). Both cars were based on the Rover V8 unit used by TVR in the Griffith (and Chimaera) until production ended in 2001 (after building 716 4.x cars). The more powerful 4.3 was also availabl with an upgrade, the BV or 'Big Valve' conversion. Initially only available to order from the factory, the 4.3BV provided a significant power increase over the standard 4.3. The original 4.3BVs are now quite rare, and harder to find due to upgrades being done on 4.3 cars by TVR Power after leaving the factory. Later on in 1993, the 4.3 ceased production and was replaced with a 5.0 litre (340 BHP, later reduced to 320 BHP). There is much discussion about the relative performance of the 4.3BV and the 5 litre - some say there is little difference in performance, with the 4.3BV perhaps having the edge. Whichever car delivers more power, the 4.3BV is hugely powerful. The biggest question is how many original (factory ordered BV) cars exist? Roger Shackleton's book ('The Griffith Story') states that only four factory 4.3BVs were built. Other reports say anything up to 20. Whichever you believe, original 4.3BVs are very rare! The site was actually the result of James Agger advising Keith to buy it (the domain name), then the car. Which he did whithout much persuasion being required on the car. Keith Tells us "I've been looking for something a bit special for a while after selling my Cerbera 4.5 last year (baby arrived!). I'm a bit of a serial TVR owner. The Griff is my 3rd and I'm sure won't be my last, but this one is destined for continued restoration and tidying to keep it as standard as possible ,though the brakes are *rubbish* and so I'll be sorting those out soon with something a little more modern". | |

So when I fancy a new car I tell him what I want and away he scurries! I've now had a 4.0 Chimaera, a 4.5 Cerbera and now the 4.3BV Griffith. The Cerbera was by far the fastest - nothing compares, but the hood off on the Griff is nice. I'm also an active member of the TVRCC - I run the East Midlands region website for the region.
